Detained Women Contribute

The women detained at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF) in Lynwood, California, study from the GOGI book PRISON: GETTING OUT BY GOING IN. The women expressed the need for a book directed to the unique needs of women in prison and requested that their words, their art, and their thoughts be included in the upcoming WOMEN IN PRISON: GETTING OUT BY GOING IN book to be published this year.

More than thirty women participated in the WOMEN IN PRISON project, donating their time and contributing to areas of the book where they believed their words would have the most impact on others. “It’s about giving back,” GOGI Campus class president Laura W. stated. “It is our responsibility to help each other.” Laura was elected the first class president of GOGI Campus and will maintain her affiliation with GOGI as a Peer Coach and on-going volunteer once she is released.


First GOGI Campus Class President Elected

Recently elected Class President Laura W. , pictured in her youth headsclass-pres-laura-weigand.jpg the GOGI Campus- Lynwood project. GOGI Campus ~ Lynwood, is a proactive reentry project in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department who is setting a new precedent for reversing recidivism through community collaboration efforts facilitated through Getting Out By Going In. As the inaugural class president, Laura willingly accepted all duties and responsibilities related to designing and developing curriculum and procedures for all future GOGI Campus locations. Additionally, when Laura is moved from GOGI Campus ~ Lynwood to complete her time with the California Department of Corrections, she has committed to leading GOGI correspondence courses for detained women.


New GOGI Coaches Join Team

Getting Out by Going In has trained and certified additional coaches to work individually
and in groups with women detained at Century Regional Detention Facility
(CRDF) in Lynwood, CA.

The new coaches were cleared to enter the facility this week.

GOGI Campus, the Community Collaboration Reentry project initiated by
GOGI and in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, has
proven a huge success with facility administration as well as the women
participants.


Moss Publicity Hears A Hit

Moss Hears a HitVeteran Hollywood publicist, Monique Moss, hears a hit in Coach DJ’s demo CD, “Outta Myself.” The collection of positive, empowering rap music, which
includes the GOGI THEME SONG, will be marketed to music publishing companies
and music producers over the next several months.

“I been through it so I had to put my pen to it,” Coach DJ states in one of the lyrical phrases of his song.

As a graduate of the Getting Out By Going In workshop for positive changes, DeJuan makes changes that may have seemed impossible to him in the past. Even with sixteen years in the federal prison system, DeJuan (DJ) Verrett re-enters with life-changing goals and the motivation to support it. Listeners can hear these changes clearly within his empowering and positive lyrics.

Recent GOGI Graduate Gives Back

As a graduate of the GOGI Campus- Lynwood, Samantha would like to see others make the lasting changes she has made. Samantha, re-entering into a world full of potential, devotes hours to inspiring these changes.


Newest GOGI Graduates Become Volunteers

Getting Out By Going In Coach Liz is pictured with new GOGI graduates Angelina, Samantha and Joanna. coach-liz.JPGThe graduates have recently become volunteers and participated in the GOGI Campus project at Los Angeles County Lynwood jail for women.
In the project, the inmates become students. The students learn the GOGI tools for positive decision making. In its unique reentry program, GOGI Campus pairs inmates with professional coaches who support them in making positive decisions when they reenter society. “Having a coach makes a big difference,” Angelina said. “I have the support I need to be a success.”


Troy Byer’s Success, a hit in the GOGI workshop

troy-byers.jpgActress, Writer and Director Troy Byer’s workshop based on her book EX- FREE, allows inmates to empower themselves in positive change. “Much of the crime committed by women is done in the company of men,” Byer states, “We must get these women to think powerfully for themselves.”

Byer’s recent completion of the book EX- FREE sparked the interest of Getting out by Going Going In Founder, Coach Taylor.

“I know how dramatic of an impact Troy has had on her audience and I wanted the women of the GOGI Campus to see an amazing success story for themselves,” said Coach Taylor. She continued: “Troy came from the ‘hood’ ” and made the proactive decision to have a powerful life for herself,” Coach Taylor explains. “Troy knows how to change their hearts.”
